Services

I’m a carpenter and project manager who likes figuring out what’s actually going on: why a deck is rotting, why a beam is sagging, why a student is stuck. I’ll explain what I find in plain terms, then fix it properly or help you do it yourself.

Building and Renovation

Based in the Burlington, Vermont area.

  • Renovation and restoration, including homes built before 1900.
  • Structural repair. Finding the real cause of problems like rot, split or undersized framing, and sagging floors, and fixing them right. I work with structural engineers when a job calls for one.
  • Decks and outdoor structures built to dry out and last, with open framing and good airflow.
  • Finish carpentry. Trim, built-in shelving, and custom closets.
  • Custom saunas, from design through build. See my build page for the saunas I worked on at Madbush Falls.
  • Energy efficiency improvements, such as continuous exterior insulation, that cut operating costs without changing how a space looks.
  • Project management for larger jobs. Estimating and material takeoffs, crew leadership, and acting as your owner’s representative when several contractors are involved.

I’d rather be thorough than fast. You’ll know what I found, what your options are, and what each one costs before the work starts.

STEM Tutoring

One-on-one remote tutoring in AP Calculus, AP Physics, computer science, and advanced math. I focus on why things work, not memorizing steps, because that’s what lets students solve problems they haven’t seen before.

Details, pricing, and scheduling are on my tutoring page.

Technical Consulting (by request)

I take a limited number of technical projects, based on my time as a startup CTO and my own self-hosted setups:

  • Software and infrastructure review. An honest look at a backend, a deployment, or a hardware and software design, focused on whether it will scale and whether anyone will be able to maintain it.
  • Private home servers. Setting up media streaming and backups that you control, without depending on third-party cloud services.
