Personalized STEM Coaching
I provide targeted, 1-on-1 remote coaching in AP Calculus, AP Physics, Computer Science, and Advanced Math.
My goal isn’t just to help students memorize formulas to pass next week’s exam. It’s to help them build deep, structural intuition for how these concepts work so they can solve complex problems independently.

How I Approach Teaching
Most STEM anxiety comes from treating math and physics like a list of arbitrary rules to memorize. This prepares students for the test, but it does not give them any actual problem solving skills for when they come across new problems in future classes, or for when they run into actual problems in the real world.
My approach is different. I break down complex theoretical ideas into clear, intuitive mental models. Having spent my career moving between abstract computer science, formal mathematics, startup engineering, and physical carpentry, I help students bridge that gap by getting to know them as a person, and grounding abstract mathematics with concrete examples drawn from their interests.
When a student connects an abstract formula with a real concept they have an intuitive grasp of, they start to understand why a formula works, which allows them to generalize that understanding to more abstract contexts.
I also show students the process. A lot of students who struggle with STEM see a problem and feel lost about how to even approach finding a solution, and so they give up. They’re taught that they have a list of equations and techniques to solve problems, and that’s all math is: matching up problem solving techniques from your list to the problem and plugging some numbers in.
This misses that problem solving is a creative process. When a talented math student meets a totally new problem, they feel the same confusion and discomfort as everyone else. The difference is that they try something anyway, even if it feels silly: write down whatever comes to mind and see if seeing it on paper sparks something. Maybe it won’t, but there’s no way to know until you try. And nearly all math feels simple and obvious once you get it. Even 1 + 1 = 2 took Bertrand Russell and Alfred North Whitehead hundreds of pages of groundwork in Principia Mathematica before they reached a proof. Part of my job is helping students sit with that discomfort and see that it isn’t a sign they’re bad at math. It’s the process everyone goes through, even the most talented mathematicians, whenever they encounter something new.
A Bit About My Background
I’ve been teaching and building in one form or another for over a decade:
- Academic Foundation: Math & CS double-major at Vassar College; MSSM alum (with 5s on AP Calculus BC and both AP Physics C exams).
- Teaching & Mentorship: Taught Honors Geometry and Algebra 1 at Kents Hill School, Google igniteCS program leader, and long-time academic peer tutor.
- Real-World Application: Co-founded a tech startup as CTO, and spend my days working in carpentry and construction project management here in Vermont.
Check out my education page for more detail about my background.
How It Works & Pricing
I keep my client roster small so I can give each student my full attention and energy.
- Single 1-on-1 Session: $85 / hour
- 4-Session Course Bundle: $320 (Recommended for weekly continuity)
Sessions take place over video with an interactive digital whiteboard setup, allowing us to work through problem sets, proofs, and diagrams together.
Scheduling & Cancellation Policy
- 24-Hour Notice: Life happens, but because time slots are limited, please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session.
- Late Cancellations: Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice are charged in full.
- Emergencies: Illness and unexpected emergencies are the exception. Everyone gets one grace pass per semester for sudden last-minute reschedules.
